        Position Title: Parish Custodian
        Reports To: Maintenance Manager
        Hours: Part-Time (approximately 25-30 hours/week)
        Location: St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral  |  1200 S. Washington Street  |  Amarillo, Texas

        Position Summary

        St. Mary’s Cathedral is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for parishioners, clergy, staff, and guests. The Custodian is responsible for the routine cleaning and general upkeep of the Cathedral and its facilities, including the sanctuary, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas. The position also provides assistance with parish events and performs basic maintenance and building upkeep as needed. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, is dependable and trustworthy, and understands the importance of maintaining a clean and respectful environment appropriate for a Catholic church.

        Key Responsibilities

        • Clean and maintain the sanctuary, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and other designated areas.
        • Perform routine sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing, and trash removal.
        • Keep restrooms and common areas clean and properly stocked.
        • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, and painting or touch-up work.
        • Report maintenance, safety, or repair concerns to parish leadership.
        • Assist with setting up and putting away tables, chairs, and equipment for Masses, meetings, and special events.
        • Help clean and prepare facilities before and after parish events.
        • Monitor cleaning and paper supplies and notify leadership when supplies need to be reordered.
        • Assist with keeping entrances, sidewalks, and other exterior areas clean and free of debris.
        • Help ensure the building is properly secured at the end of shifts and events.
        • Perform other related duties as assigned.

        Qualifications & Requirements

        • Previous custodial, janitorial, maintenance, or related experience preferred, but not required.
        • Reliable, punctual, honest, and trustworthy.
        • Able to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
        • Takes pride in maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
        • Able to follow instructions and use cleaning products and equipment safely.
        • Able to perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, lifting, moving tables and chairs, and occasionally using a ladder.

        Position Title: Parish Bookkeeper (Part-Time)
        Reports To: Rector / Parochial Vicar
        Hours: Part-Time (approximately 25 hours/week)

        Position Summary

        The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the Cathedral. This position ensures financial transparency, handles accounts payable/receivable, processes payroll, and assists in budget preparation. Because employment within the Catholic Church is fundamentally a ministry, the bookkeeper must support the spiritual mission of St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral and adhere to the ethical and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

        Key Responsibilities

        • General Accounting: Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with Diocesan guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
        • Accounts Payable (A/P): Process and verify invoices, prepare checks for leadership approval, and maintain vendor records.
        • Accounts Receivable (A/R): Record daily receipts, process cash/checks from Sunday collections, and make secure bank deposits.
        • Payroll: Process bi-weekly payroll, track employee timecards, and coordinate with the diocesan payroll/HR office.
        • Donor & Contribution Records: Reconcile contributions, assist with money-counting ministries, and generate annual tax statements for parishioners.
        • Reporting: Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the Cathedral Finance Council and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Amarillo.
        • Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with all diocesan financial policies, tax regulations, and internal controls. Assist with year-end closing and annual audits.
        • Other Duties: Perform other duties, as assigned by the Rector or Parochial Vicar.

        Qualifications & Requirements

        • Education/Experience: High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred. At least 3-5 years of proven bookkeeping experience.
        • Technical Skills: Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks / QuickBooks Online), and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
        • Diocesan Requirements: Must successfully pass a criminal background check and complete Safe Environment / Ethics training as mandated by the Diocese of Amarillo.
        • Cultural Competency: Practicing Roman Catholic preferred, with a strong understanding of Church structures and parish ministries.

        Physical Requirements

        • Prolonged Sitting: Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for up to eight (8) hours per day.
        • Repetitive Motions: Frequent manual dexterity required for keyboarding, data entry, and handling paper documents.
        • Vision & Hearing: Close visual acuity to read financial spreadsheets and monitor computer screens. Ability to hear and communicate via telephone.
        • Lifting: Ability to occasionally lift and carry office supplies or heavy collection bags/boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
        • Mobility: Ability to navigate a standard office environment, including bending, reaching overhead, and traveling to the local bank to make secure deposits.

        Position Summary

        St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral is seeking a full-time Director of Religious Education (DRE) & Faith Formation / Youth Leader to lead and strengthen our Cathedral-wide mission of forming disciples of Jesus Christ.

        This position oversees all adult and youth faith formation at St. Mary’s Cathedral, providing a unified vision for lifelong Catholic formation – from children and teens to adults and families.

        The DRE will also personally serve as the Youth Leader for St. Mary’s Cathedral, directly leading our middle-school and high-school youth ministry (Edge and LifeTeen). They will be actively present with our young people, build relationships, form adult mentors and Core Team members, and coordinate weekly gatherings, retreats, service, social activities, diocesan events, and other opportunities for discipleship.

        The DRE will also build, form, and lead a team of formation teachers, catechists, mentors, and ministry leaders, equipping them to provide faithful, engaging, and consistent Catholic formation throughout our Cathedral community.

        Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
        Reports To: The Bishop of the Diocese of Amarillo
        Hours: Full-Time (exempt salaried)

        Overview of Position

        The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is the principal advisor to the diocesan bishop in matters of finance in cooperation with the Diocesan Finance Council. The CFO is responsible for administering the temporal goods of the diocese under the authority of the bishop, in accordance with the plan of the Diocesan Finance Council, and to make those payments from diocesan funds which the bishop or his delegates have legitimately authorized.

        The CFO serves as a resource person to parishes in financial and related matters while evaluating, updating, and ensuring compliance of financial policies and procedures for the parishes, schools, and other juridic persons under the oversight of the bishop, advancing sound practices for the care of the temporal goods of the Church.

        Key Responsibilities

        • Act as Financial Advisor to the Bishop and other diocesan leadership.
        • Analyze and make recommendations pertaining to all major financial decisions and questions facing the diocese, its parishes, schools, and other external organizations.
        • Implement and evaluate financial policies and practices of the diocese to ensure that financial goals and objectives are met in accordance with Canon Law, with policies established by the diocesan bishop, and with government regulations.
        • Oversee the planning and completion of the diocesan annual audit process in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
        • Oversee the administrative and operational functions of the Finance and Stewardship and Development Departments.
        • Oversee planning and completion of the diocesan budget.
        • Calculate Cathedraticum and other parish assessments and fees.
        • Oversee in administration of diocesan pension plans and employee health plans.
        • Oversee in the administration of risk management to include property, liability, and casualty insurance coverage.
        • Ensure that all funds are properly invested and managed; evaluate investment alternatives in coordination with the Diocesan Investment Council.
        • Maintain a high level of contact with constituencies across the diocese, especially with priests, their parish staffs, and their finance councils.
        • Oversee internal audit/training functions and reporting.
        • Oversee system administration for the Pastoral Center’s information technology.
        • Serves as staff liaison to specific diocesan committees, including Finance Council, Catholic Foundation of the Texas Panhandle, and Priest Pension Boards.  Participate in various ad hoc committees as required or assigned.
        • Handle bank and investment vendor relations.
        • Provide Human Resource services as Director of Human Resources.
        • Other duties as assigned.

        Qualifications

        • A Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration/management, economics, finance, or a related field with 5-7 years of progressive finance/management experience.

        • Knowledge of QuickBooks.
        • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations.
        • Typing and literacy in commonly utilized computer programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
        • Ability to communicate effectively with priests, bookkeepers, and others inside and outside the diocese.
        • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
        • Preferred: A Masters degree in accounting, business administration/management, economics, finance, or a related field.
        • Preferred: Working knowledge of the structure and governance of the Catholic Church, including the relationship between the Holy See, dioceses, parishes, religious institutes, and other ecclesiastical entities.

        Position Title: Director of ​Faith Formation
        Reports To: The Moderator of the Curia

        Overview of Position

        The Director of Faith Formation serves the Bishop of the Diocese of Amarillo by providing vision, leadership, and support for the Church's ministry of evangelization and lifelong faith formation throughout the Diocese of Amarillo. The Director's primary mission is to accompany pastors and parish catechetical leaders, helping them form missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

        The Director leads primarily through relationships, consultation, formation, and collaboration rather than administration. The Office of Faith Formation exists to serve as a resource accountability to parishes by providing guidance, encouragement, training, and support.  

        Key Responsibilities

        • 1)  Mentor and Support Pastors and Parish Catechetical Leaders
          • Build and maintain strong relationships with pastors and parish Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education.
          • Serve as the primary diocesan resource for parish faith formation.
          • Regularly communicate with parish catechetical leaders through visits, meetings, newsletters, and electronic communication.
          • Encourage collaboration and networking among parish leaders within parishes, deaneries, and throughout the Diocese.
        • 2)  Formation of Catechetical Leaders
          • Develop and coordinate ongoing formation opportunities for Directors of Religious Education and catechists.
          • Organize diocesan formation sessions, workshops, and retreats as needed.
          • Coordinate a diocesan certification process for catechists and parish catechetical leaders.
          • Assist in the onboarding of new Directors of Religious Education through orientation and mentoring.
        • 3)  Parish Support and Consultation based on the Bishop’s Vision
          • Provide consultation to pastors regarding parish catechetical ministry.
          • Assist parishes in developing effective faith formation programs.
          • Encourage lifelong faith formation that includes children, youth, adults, and families.
          • Promote family-centered catechesis with parents recognized as the primary educators of their children in the faith.
          • Oversee OCIA, sacramental preparation, adult faith formation, and related ministries by collaborating with qualified clergy, parish leaders, and other experts. The Director provides direction and appropriate oversight while empowering team members to exercise their expertise and remains ultimately accountable for the quality, consistency, and doctrinal integrity of all programs and resources offered through the Office.
        •   4)  Evangelization and Discipleship
          • Promote a diocesan vision of evangelization and lifelong discipleship.
          • Encourage parish programs that move beyond sacramental preparation toward ongoing conversion and Christian discipleship.
          • Foster spiritual growth among catechists, parish leaders, and families.
        • 5)  Diocesan Leadership
          • Implement the Bishop's vision for faith formation.
          • Collaborate with other diocesan offices in serving parish ministries.
          • Facilitate the work of the Diocesan Faith Formation Commission.
          • Prepare an annual ministry plan with measurable goals and priorities.
        • 6)  Administrative Responsibilities
          • Maintain required diocesan records and reports.
          • Oversee the office budget responsibly.
          • Coordinate diocesan catechetical events and workshops.
          • Communicate regularly with pastors regarding available resources and formation opportunities.

        Qualifications

        • Bachelors degree in theology, religious studies, Catholic studies, catechetics, pastoral ministry, education, or a related field.
          • OR a Bachelors degree (in any field) with five years of experience in catechetical ministry.
        • Thorough knowledge of Catholic doctrine and catechetical ministry.
        • Demonstrated commitment to evangelization and lifelong faith formation.
        • Experience in parish catechetical leadership or related pastoral ministry.
        • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
        • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, religious, and lay leadership.
        • Ability to travel throughout the Diocese of Amarillo.
        • Bilingual – working knowledge of Spanish and English
        • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
        • Preferred: A Masters degree in theology, religious education, pastoral ministry, or a related field.
